I. What is involved in a Breast Implant Revision Surgery?

Breast Implant Revision is usually performed on an outpatient basis, in the surgeon's office-based surgical suite, an out-patient surgery center or hospital and normally takes about one to three hours to complete. The length of the procedure varies according to the technique used, as well as any complications or conditions related to the previous implants. Normally, you will be able to return home within a few hours of the surgery, but you may be required to stay overnight in some cases.

During the procedure, you will be placed under general anesthesia. Your surgeon will remove the existing implants and place new saline-filled breast implants in the same area. The new implants can be placed under the chest muscle or directly under the breasts.

II. Preparations and Precautions for a Breast Implant Revision Surgery

During the initial consultation, your surgeon will discuss the changes that you would like to make to your appearance as well as listen to your concerns regarding the procedure so that he or she may determine the appropriate alternatives.
Prior to your surgical procedure, the surgeon will perform a complete health history and physical exam, and provide you with specific instructions to assist you in preparing for your surgery.

After your breast implant revision surgery, you may ne required to wear a surgical support bra to help with the healing process. The stitches will come off within a week to ten days, but swelling may continue, fading gradually over time.
It is important to note that no procedure is without risks; however, the majority of complications associated with a breast implant revision surgery are minor when the procedure is performed by an experienced board certified plastic surgeon.

III. What Results can I expect after my Breast Implant Revision?

The long-term outcome for breast surgery revision is good. This procedure allows women to continue their daily lives without the worry of silicon leakage and complications. A overwhelming percentage of women express high satisfaction with the results of their surgery and feel that it has a positive impact on their lives.
